Ron Polvi Civil Engineering/ Sustainability Scholarship

Starting in 2009 the Oregon Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) will award a $500 scholarship to a civil engineering student focusing on sustainability at the Oregon State University. The scholarship is established to recognize and financially assist students who are interested in pursuing a career in the broad field of Public Works.

Century West Sustainable Cities Scholarship Application

 

The Oregon Chapter of the American Public Works Association will award a scholarship to a student enrolled in Business, Architecture, Law or Policy/Planning and working toward a graduate degree with an emphasis on sustainable infrastructure and an alignment with the University’s Sustainable Cities Initiative at the University of Oregon. In 2010 the amount of the scholarship is $2000.
Eligibility.

Full-time students second year and above at the beginning of the academic year of the award will be considered for the scholarship. Students who receive the award during their second year will be eligible to apply for the award in subsequent years, provided they maintain eligibility for the scholarship. Course work must be taken at the University of Oregon. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

 

Selection Criteria
1. Graduate standing, second year or above, at the beginning of the academic year of the award.
2. Student enrolled in Business, Architecture, Law or Policy/Planning and working toward a graduate degree with an emphasis on sustainable infrastructure and an alignment with the University’s Sustainable Cities Initiative.
3. Demonstrated financial need for the scholarship.
4. United States citizen.
5. Four-year resident of the state of Oregon.

 

Procedure
1. Applicant shall complete the Biographical Data Form provided by APWA, and deliver it to Thomas Osdoba, coordinator for this scholarship, by May 14, 2010. Be sure that your application includes the following information: academic achievement (GPA – attach trascripts), employment experience, student activities, community service, a statement of estimated income and expenses for the coming academic year, and a statement of your long term education and career goals.
2. University faculty shall review the applications and recommend one scholarship applicant to the APWA Scholarship Committee for consideration.
3. The recommended scholarship applicant, along with the requested supporting biographical data and transcripts, must be submitted to the APWA Scholarship Committee by May 28, 2010.
4. The APWA Scholarship Committee will then submit the scholarship application to the APWA Oregon Chapter Scholarship Foundation for consideration of award.
5. Applicants will be notified by August 13, 2010.
6. Half of the award will be disbursed at the beginning of the Fall Term and the other half at the beginning of Winter Term.

 

Michael Lindberg Public Administration Scholarship

The Oregon Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) will award a scholarship to a student enrolled in the Public Administration program in the College of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University.  The scholarship is named for former Portland City Commissioner Michael Lindberg, and was established to recognize and financially assist students who are interested in pursuing a career in Public Works Administration.  The amount for the current academic year is $2000.

 

Eligibility

Students who have achieved graduate standing at the beginning of the academic year of the award will be considered for the scholarship.  Students who have completed 30 credits within the MPA program will again be eligible for the award during a subsequent year, provided they maintain eligibility for the scholarship.  Course work must be taken at Portland State University. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Graduate standing at the beginning of the academic year of the award.

  2. Student enrolled in a program working toward a Master of Public Administration degree, with major interest in Public Works administration.

  3. Academic achievement.

  4. Demonstrated financial need for the scholarship.

  5. United States citizen; 4-year resident of the State of Oregon.

Procedure

  1. Complete the Biographical Data Form provided by the College of Urban and Public Affairs and deliver it to the Public Administration department.  Be sure that your application includes the following information: academic achievement (GPA), employment experience, student activities, community service, financial resources, long term career goals, and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which shall be from a public works professional.

  2.  Selection of the recipient shall be based on department recommendation, subject to the concurrence of the Oregon Chapter APWA Executive Board.

  3. Awards will be disbursed one-half during Fall term, and one-half at the beginning of Winter term.

  4. College recommendations and supporting biographical data and transcripts must be submitted to the APWA Scholarship Committee by October 29.
