Welcome to the first joint American Public Works Association/Oregon Emergency Management Association 2005 Spring Conference:  Paving New Paths. The conference will be held at the Seven Feathers Casino & Resort located in southern Oregon in the scenic South Umpqua River Valley between the Cascade and the Coastal mountain ranges. We hope you are able to take this opportunity to explore and enjoy the area and the amenities Seven Feathers offers.

Recent events like the hurricanes in Florida and the tsunami in south Asia emphasize the fact that public works departments are first responders at many types of emergencies. One of the lessons learned from these events is the need to strengthen the bonds between public works agencies and other first responders.  We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to provide APWA and OEMA members the ability to train together, get to know each other, and perhaps, do some joint planning for the future. We hope you take this opportunity to reach out and network with your peers from other organizations as you enjoy the conference.

Greg Miller, President APWA
Les Miller, President OEMA
